After completing the hiking trip which inspired Misplaced: Here, There, and the Journey Between, Eric and his friends (the Adventure Team) began inviting others to join them on a similar hike in northern Georgia every autumn. The larger fraternity which developed from these annual trips was dubbed the Bigfoot Hiking Club. One year, Eric took his brother and a friend on the Bigfoot hike and wrote this guide as a resource the help them prepare for a successful first three day hiking trip. Since then, it has been distributed among invitees on the Bigfoot hike every year.
Excerpt: “I am honored to be taking my brother and his friend out for their first hike in a few weeks. As we approach their inaugural trip, I am considering how they need to prepare for this new journey. What info do they need in advance? What will they have to wait and learn on the trail itself? If you’re preparing for your first hike, there are four general categories to keep in mind: food & water, gear, physical & mental preparedness and navigation.
In this booklet, I am passing along what I consider to be the need-to-know stuff for a newbie hiker without diving into information overload.”
